Zero Tolerance for Umpire Abuse as Playoffs Begin
The summer has flown by and we find ourselves at the playoff stage of the DDMBA season.
Given the frequency and amount of rainfall which has fallen, this season has been an unusual one.
There have been many postponed games and it has been difficult to get into the normal season flow.
DDMBA has noticed a recent rise in incidents of verbal abuse being directed at umpires often following disputed judgement call plays.
As we enter the playoffs, DDMBA reminds all players, coaches and parents there is a ZERO tolerance policy for any type of umpire abuse.
Infractions of these policies will be investigated and met with significant suspensions established through the BNS Handbook Discipline Grid located at section 6.3 of the BNS Handbook:
Further, BNS & BNSUD have a green arm band initiative in place this season which doubles any suspension involving a youth umpire.
The DDMBA Executive is hopeful there will be no incidents in the coming playoffs requiring review by the Discipline Committee but is prepared to act firmly if they do arise.
Any suspensions handed down will carry over to next season if not completed this season.
Please keep the proper perspective in mind that we are taking part in youth baseball and should be rejoicing watching our sons and daughters healthy and happy as they compete as individuals within a team game we all love.
No one disputed play or call is worth losing your composure and not being able to participate.
Let's enjoy the summer sun and playoff competition in a supportive environment for all - players, coaches and umpires.
Thank you
DDMBA Executive
